They are made with a blend of Rabbit and Beaver fur that stands up against the weather. Honestly, they are the best hat on the market we can find for the money. It’s a hard wearing working man’s hat.
Cheap wool hats are not meant to stand up to weather and abuse. Wool simply does not ‘felt‘ tightly enough to keep the moisture from separating the fibers. That’s why they begin to droop or soften so much quicker than a Fur / Beaver blend.
I know it is an investment but you’ll get your moneys worth and a lot more life out of a fur felt. Plus they can be reworked, stiffened and reshaped, many times over.
